Looking

In Uncategorized on September 30, 2008 at 1:44 pm

Shapes are:

  • Squares
  • Circles
  • Rectangles
  • Triangles

Shapes can be regular or irregular

What shapes can you see around you? In the home? In the garden? At School? Outside?

If you look you will start to see that shapes are everywhere!

Remember

Some shapes may be disguised by another visual aspect that competes for our attention, like colour or pattern. If we look carefully we can still see what the outline of the shape is, if we have a clear view that is not obstructed by anything else. We may not know the name of the shape, but that’s ok. Drawing is not a maths lesson!

Doodle it!

Find one object around the house with a strong shape and draw iton a sheet of A4 paper. Draw in the middle of the page and make your shape nice and big. Draw in biro for this exercise and don’t worry about mistakes. You don’t need to add lots of detail if you don’t want to, the aim is just to try and capture the shape of the object on the page using only your hand and a biro.

Talk about it…

When you have drawn your shape add a comment below and tell me what you drew. With some objects, like a TV, you might have found there was a shape within a shape.

Well Done!

You have completed your first doodle! Don’t worry if it took a couple of go’s to get right.

Practice makes perfect
